Application

TRN mechanical external cutter is designed to cut and retrieve drill pipes and tubing during well interventions and overhaul.

Design

The cutter consists of sub, spring dog (anchor), body, thrust bearing, preload sleeve, thrust washer, ring, thrust ring, spring, feed ring, shear pins, guide, knife pins, knife pin screws and knives.
The cutter has box metric threaded connections at its upper and lower ends for making up with the sub and the guide.

Radially moving knives are installed in slots at the lower end of the body. The knife pins are secured with screws. The feed ring is held in "running in" position by brass shear bolts. Cutlip guide enables top of the pipe to easily enter the cutter. The cutter can recover up to 80m of cut pipe.
